LUDHIANA: While most parts of the city are facing water woes, Verka milk plant on Ferozepur Road has enough water to meet the construction requirements for the house of its general manager.
The favour is being done by misusing official machinery of the plant. The malpractice was noticed at the under-construction house of its GM PK Verma at Ranjit Nagar on Ferozepur Road opposite Rajguru Nagar.

The TNN found an official tanker reportedly meant for milk supply and bearing registration number PAT 6278 on the spot.
Interestingly, Verma was supervising the work while water was being used from the taner for laying lintel of the roof. An embarrassed Verma admitted that tanker was being used without permission. "But you see it''s just for emergency use," he said. But sources in plant''s employees union said the missue has been going on since beginning of the construction some months ago.
Verma denied allegation of using casual labour employe d at the plant for the purpose. The security officer PC Bhumbla played hide and seek for pretty long despite being present in the plant when TNN went there for his version. The security inspector Kirpal Singh had no idea about his officer availibility for two hours.
The staff maintained they could not part with the information regarding movement of the said tanker out of the plant, So much so, one of them immediately closed the movement register and put it away when told about purpose of enquiry. The present instance explains why most of the top officials of the plant including former ones built their houses during posting at Ludhiana.
One of them completed construction hardly a month ago, said sources. The whole thing is being done in connivance with the security staff of the plant, they added. The plant chairman Raghbir Singh Saharanmajra maintained nothing of this sort has come to notice so far. When told about the facts, he promised to speak to the GM even as he is answerable to MD Milkfed, he said. Notably, newly elected Akali MP Sharanjit Singh Dhillon is on the plant''s board of directors whose five years'' term will end this December.
